Marty traces his roots in the automotive aftermarket back to 1972 when he worked for an import car parts specialty company BAP/Geon where he started as a warehouse associate and worked his way up to becoming an import parts store manager over the course of his 4 years with the company.
In 1976 Marty, together with partner Craig Smith, purchased two of the BAP/Geon locations in the Detroit area and formed S-G Imported Car Parts eventually turning it into an 8-store chain before selling their stores in 2009 to a regional warehouse distributor.
Marty’s passion for import cars led to his involvement in the Auto International Association (AIA) where he has served on the Board and as Chairman since 1986. AIA is a segment of the larger industry association, the Auto Care Association, where Marty has held positions on the Educations, Audit and Show/Events committees as well as served on the association’s Board of Directors as well.
In 1990 the Society of Import Parts Specialists (SIPS) was born and serves the collective interests of import specialty parts sellers as a buying group and venue for like-minded individuals to discuss the challenges of the specialty business. Marty was a founding member of the group and currently serves as its President.
Marty is a true family man celebrating his 40th wedding anniversary in 2015 and has 3 children and 2 grandchildren.
